Artist Statement- I primarily work with crochet due to its accessibility and how easy it is to move. I am able to crochet wherever and whenever I want and this allows me to crochet what I observe in nature. There are also many ways to use natural materials and intertwine them into my crochet. Working with nature and natural materials has allowed me to be fluid with my medium and make the shapes organic, similar to how nature constantly changes. I have spent lots of time around nature due to my family living in the country, and therefore I have learned to incorporate it into my art. I want the viewer to experience nature as I have throughout my life and envision it as I would. By seeing my crochet works they see what I imagine whenever I step foot outside in Northeastern Wisconsin. I see nature with crocheting, so the two get combined and my thoughts are brought into my pieces. My intent is to crochet nature and allow others to experience what I have throughout my life. I looked at nature and thought to myself that I could crochet that, and I did.
